Nancy Benn launched Direct PA Services in the spring of 2010 after being made redundant from a role she loved as PA and Team Leader working for an award winning social enterprise. She had been following the Virtual Assistance sector with interest for a number of years and after her employer was put into liquidation, one of the non-executive directors asked Nancy to become his part-time secretary on a freelance basis. A recommendation from the insolvency practitioner to a successful sole-trader followed by further work from a large local charity and Direct PA Services was born.
With nearly 20 years working for high street banks Nancy had gained excellent customer service skills, but disillusioned by ever increasing targets eventually moved with this experience to the role of receptionist for a state of the art manufacturing company. However, her keen organisational skills were soon identified and she quickly rose to the post of Secretary and PA to the firm’s directors. Nancy thoroughly enjoyed this role, but due to her employer's financial difficulties, eventually faced redundancy. Accepting an admin post for a local social enterprise, but subsequently moving to Team Leader and PA, provided many new challenges for Nancy who discovered working in the third sector was something she loved. Sadly, due to funding cuts, her final task was to organise and administer the company through insolvency with a total loss of jobs for all employees.
Not surprisingly, Nancy wanted full control over her future and took this final redundancy as an opportunity to set up her business. As a versatile Virtual Assistant, she now supports CEOs, NEDs, Chairs and their boards in addition to working with Coaches and Consultants in the health and wellbeing space, in particular the mental health sector. With keen intuition and great organisational skills, Nancy enjoys being PA to a number of clients, managing emails and diaries, organising meetings and arranging travel, ensuring clients have consistent and reliable support.
Nancy, with her husband, two dogs and a parrot, is now living on the Costa Blanca in Spain. With a view to travelling Europe, they packed everything they owned into their car and left the UK in September 2017 however Brexit put a hold to their nomadic lifestyle. Having successfully worked on the road with no interuption to client support, Nancy also coaches others to live a life of freedom. Erica, our legal services support expert, has over 20 years experience as a Legal Executive PA in both private and public sector environments. Working primarily in London, Manchester and Sheffield, she has touched on most areas of law including Public and Corporate, Employment, Conveyancing, Wills and Probate, Company and Civil Litigation. Following an essential house move, Erica decided to give up full-time employment and become a Virtual Assistant so that she could offer a more personal and flexible service to both legal and none legal clients. This enables them to take full advantage of the vast knowledge, skills and experience she has to offer. Outside of work Erica enjoys watching football, meals out, walking and eating chocolate!
Lynne has over 25 years experience of working as a PA at Senior Executive level for both UK and multi-national organisations. She decided to leave full-time employment and become a Virtual Assistant in order that she could utilise her skills to their full advantage. She is able to offer a variety of secretarial/administration services to our clients and specialises in digital transcription of documents/reports and minutes of group meetings. Lynne thrives when working under pressure to meet client deadlines and confidentiality is guaranteed. In her spare time Lynne enjoys swimming, DIY and gardening.
Business manager Peter has more than 25 years experience in professional business support management roles for various industries with a keen awareness of the challenges that most businesses currently face. With a sharp focus on the operational development of companies, he leads on performance management and productivity. An advanced user of Microsoft Office packages, he programmes Excel to produce complex spreadsheets. Outside of work Peter enjoys sport, reading and eating out.
